Running for Gods
The thought of organizing athletic games in the traditional ancient way was born in the minds of some people and decided to revive them. Every four years, a couple of months before the official Olympics in Nemea, Peloponnese, the Modern Nemea Games take place and everyone is invited to participate, no matter age, religion or ethnicity.
The opportunity of reviving the games was the completion of the excavation of the ancient stadium of Nemea in 1991 by Stephen Miller from the Berkeley University, that started in 1974. In 1995 a committee was created and finally in 1996 the first Modern Nemea Games took place. Until now is estimated that 1800 people from 45 countries aged 5 to 97 years old have taken part. © GERASIMOS DOMENIKOS / INVISION IMAGES
